Worked Example of a Printable Birthday Invitation

This worked example is split into the Wizards three main 'tabbed' areas. Other types of invitations are similar. For Wedding & Christening invitations, some of the differences are shown.

See Printable Examples for a full size Birthday, Christening, Wedding or Halloween Example.

To use our online wizard you will need the Adobe Reader (Which you almost certainly do), a colour printer, some paper and depending on what you are doing, some scissors or a guillotine.

Design, Detail & Guests

Getting Started:

Find and click the wizard from one of the main pages. (Or just click him here!)
Image

Choose a design

Once you are in the wizard, there are two ways to choose a design:
Image

Quick search is the easiest! Type in what you are looking for, then click GO. Page through the found invitations using the buttons at the bottom. You can change your search word without going back to the main page, just enter what you want at the top and press GO.
Image

When you find a design just click it. You can come back and change it later if you want. The design will then appear at the top of the wizard:

Add Your Details

Keeping the text short and to the point is the key to a great looking invitation. Too much information, and your message will be lost. The wizard will shrink your text to fit the areas on the invitation, be careful not to over do it; he'll shrink it right out of existence if you put in too much!

Date, Respond date & Time:

Date - Simply choose the date of your occasion.
Respond by - if you leave this as the same date as the occasion, it will not show on the invitation.
Image

Time - This is merged with the dates by the wizard. If you enter the above details, then you will get something like this:
Image

Description:

The description usually takes up most of the room on the invitation, and usually has the largest text. Again, too much text and the wizard WILL fit it into the space!

Small description:
Image

Will give something like this:

A longer description:

Difference for Printable Wedding & Christening Invitations (Formal Invitations)
A formal invitation will have two descriptions:
Image

Your guests name will appear between the two descriptions
on the invitation, unless you change it in the settings.

These can be used in several ways to invite your guests, but this is the norm:

Name in the middle:
Mr & Mrs Smith have the pleasure of inviting
Mr & Mrs Fred Jones
To the Marriage of their daughter Charlotte to Mr...
Image

The Venue:

This is a tricky one for the Wizard. He has try to squeeze it all in, but at the same time has to try to keep the usual address format.

You can help him by keeping it short, especially the name of the venue - the first line!
Image

Will give you:
Image
The name of the venue is the main problem area. If it's very long, try splitting it over the first two lines!

R.S.V.P

You have some more options here. The address lines will appear at the bottom of the invitation in plain text. We find the invitation looks better if you don't use these lines. Just enter the name, Sandra in this case, then use the comments fields for the RSVP.

Image

Will give you:
Image

By removing everything but Sandras name, and using the comments, you get:
Image

The Return Slip

The cut off strip at the bottom of the invite can be altered or even removed. The above image shows the strip using the Auto setting
Image.

If you want to add your own version, just un-tick the auto setting and type in your own message:
Image

Will give you (We've also removed the scissor line in the settings):

General Comments

These can be used for anything you like. We've labelled them as Food, Theme and Other, but you can enter what you like!
Image

Again, don't feel that you have to fill them in, it will look too busy if you do them all!

Foldable ThankYou Note:

Leave these blank if you don't want one.
Image

If you enter the above text, you will get a one page ThankYou note at the end of the set of invitations. You simply print this as many times as you need, then fold them up and hand them out at the end of your occasion. See below for more details..

Guests

Simply add one guest per line. You can paste them in from a spreadsheet or other list if you have it.
Image

The Wizard will use each line to create a personalised invitation:
Image

You will also get a spare included that you can print as many time as you like:
Image

If you don't enter any guests, you will get a page full of spares, to print as many as you like.

When you've finished entering your detail, click the Check It tab.
Image

Image

The invitation will download, and either appears in a new window, or as a download for you to save.

Refining

Alter the basic settings as required, then, if you need to you can refine your invitation by clicking the Refine button.
Image

From the refine window you can change just about every aspect of your invite.

The main point to remember is that the detail is split into boxes. The refine window lets you move, resize, and set the formatting for each of these boxes.

The boxes are shown on the example within the window. The chosen box is highlighted in pink. Start by selecting the box you want to alter from the drop down list.

To move or change the size of the box, just click and hold one of the direction buttons - The longer you hold it the faster it will move!

Now change the formatting for that box:

Using the above settings you would get:

However, make a few changes and:

Would look like this:

If you get stuck, just click reset to defaults!

The invitation will download, and either appears in a new window, or as a download for you to save.
